Our Members
The Members of our Multi-Academy Trust are the conscience and moral guardians of its governance and their role is discrete and distinct; They have responsibility for ensuring that the Board of Trustees is performing well so that the purpose of the Trust is being met, its values are being adhered to and its charitable object (of “advancing education for the public benefit”) is being fulfilled. Essentially, this means focusing on the following questions:
- Is the Board of Trustees governing effectively and ensuring strong governance across the Trust?
- Is the Board of Trustees ensuring that all the pupils in the Trust are receiving a high quality education?
- Is the Board of Trustees ensuring robust financial oversight?
Our Trustees
The Board of Trustees has ultimate decision-making authority and responsibility for the general management of the Trust in accordance with the provisions set out in the Memorandum and Articles of Association and so must:
- Ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
- Hold the Executive Leadership Team to account for the educational performance of all MAT academies and their pupils and the extent to which the vision of the Trust is being fulfilled.
- Oversee the financial performance of the Trust and make sure its money is well spent.
- As charity trustees (within the terms of section 177.1 of the Charities Act 2011) the Trust Board must also ensure that they are complying with charity law requirements by “advancing education for the public benefit.”
Therefore, in order to achieve these objectives, decision-making and responsibility regarding the vision, strategy, performance and day-to- day operations are delegated to the Executive Leadership Team, sub-committees, Local Governing Bodies and the headteachers of each individual academy. This is documented in the Scheme of Delegation.
Our Local Governing Bodies
Even though the Board of Trustees is ultimately accountable in law for all decisions about its MAT schools, this does not mean that the Board directly governs all individual schools; responsibility and decision-making powers are delegated to LGBs. And, our preferred approach to the governance of individual schools is that LGBs have significant decision-making powers delegated to it from the Trust Board in a full range of key areas, so that Governors are empowered to actually govern their school (and not just advise the Trust Board) thus driving improvement at local level.
Our Executive Leadership Team
The Executive Leadership Team works together to support each other with the day to-day running and the ongoing, strategic improvement of their academies.
In alignment with the Trust’s vision and values, they work collaboratively with each other (and alongside the Trust Board, Central Support Team, Local Governing Bodies and staff teams)- to support each other and to review, plan and deliver the Primitas School Improvement Strategy. In essence, our Executive Leadership Team fulfils the role, collectively, of Chief Education Officer, ensuring that educational provision is of the highest standard across the Trust.
As child-centred educationalists, every member brings a wealth, talent, passion and leadership experience to their roles, as they strive to make a positive impact in the lives of our young people, our staff and our local community.
Our Central Support Team
Our Central Support Team (CST) works closely with the Executive Leadership Team, the Trust Board and academy staff in order to effectively manage all core MAT business functions. The aim of the CST is to ensure that we are robust as a business so that we can provide a solid foundation on which to build and deliver excellent educational provision for all of our children and young people.
