Continuing Professional Development

Our team is committed to providing professional development opportunities for all of our academies, as well as reaching out to settings that simply wish to tap into the cross-phase support offered by our Trust.

For 2024-2025 we are providing:

NPQ Provision

Working in conjunction with the Best Practice Network, we offer a range of NPQ Specialist and Leadership programmes.

The Specialist NPQs included NPQ in Leading Behaviour & Culture (NPQLBC) and the NPQ in Leading Teacher Development (NPQLTD). Meanwhile, the Leadership NPQS included the NPQ in Senior Leadership (NPQSL) and the NPQ in Headship (NPQH).

OFSTED’s NPQ Inspection (June 2024) described the Best Practice provision as: “Participants are effusive about the quality of the training and support that they receive across all NPQ programmes. The lead provider’s delivery model is accessible, carefully designed and expertly delivered.” Primitas leaders are delighted to play a part in the delivery and very much use the experience as part of their own growth and development.

Leadership Development Programme

This programme provides cross-Trust training for developing and new middle leaders. It includes CPD sessions, cross-phase discussions and comparisons, action research projects and formal presentations.

The programme is specially designed by senior Trust leaders to develop an awareness of wider academy issues, enable investigative work into personal or academy developmental areas, and provide a sharpening of presentation skills in the final formal event to senior leaders, governors and trustees.

Spotlight Sessions

With a range of primary, secondary and special settings across our Trust, our academies run a wide range of specific and cross-phase CPD sessions throughout the academic year. Each setting opens up their specific training sessions across the Trust so that expertise is shared and cross-academy work is facilitated.

This academic year has seen setting run sessions on IT, Pupil Premium, Literacy and Behaviour & Culture which have been attended by staff from other academies and they have been invaluable in sparking developments across our Trust.

Extended CPD Sessions

These sessions are run across the Trust on a range of themes and provide an opportunity for cross-phase working, reduced leadership workload on running them, and secure cost-effectiveness for CPD budgets.

These sessions have been very popular and have included topics such as SEND Funding, Physical Restraint, and have brought in guest speakers too, most recently on AI and iPad learning by the renowned Mr P!

Key Stage 1 & 2 English & Maths Groups

These sessions are predominantly primary-based – although both special and secondary representatives attend at various points.

They enable the sharing of best practice in terms of teaching, learning, planning, assessment and moderation, and support the creation of long-lasting cross-setting partnerships.

Developing A Primary Curriculum Group 

This project primarily involves senior leaders and seeks to map out a framework for the key components of an exemplary primary curriculum. We are very much not a Trust that directs a strict curriculum model for each setting, but rather we seek joint parameters and benchmarks that can support our academies in covering all the key bases in their unique provision.

This group is very much about sharing good practice, agreeing core standards, and combining the creativity and imagination across our settings so it is widely disseminated and sparks growth in one other.
